Introducing the Breakfast Voucher Program

The Breakfast Voucher Program was created by The Grocery Foundation to provide the neediest 1,000 elementary schools in Ontario with essential breakfast foods. Significant reductions of 50% or more on essential breakfast foods are made through our generous supplier and retailer sponsors.

The largest voucher program in Ontario

Breakfast for Learning administers the largest voucher program in Ontario on our behalf. Schools are qualified for registration by Breakfast for Learning. For information on how registering your school, email melissa@breakfastforlearning.ca.

A successful pilot project was conducted in 2008-09 with schools involved in ETFO’s Poverty and Education projects. This year, up to 200 schools, including all elementary schools involved in ETFO’s Poverty and Education projects, will be eligible to voluntarily participate.

This “direct-to-school” voucher program provides essential foods at cost reduction to support school-based nutrition programs across the province. Additional schools facing socio-economic challenges can be nominated by their local ETFO president to participate in the 2011-2012 Nutrition for Learning project.

School Registration Form

Nominated and eligible elementary public schools complete and submit the Registration form and fax it directly to the Grocery Foundation at (416) 922-5667. Download the form here.

Public Donations

Public donations generated by the Toonies for Tummies fundraising campaign are used to purchase commodities such as milk and fruit, and to subsidize schools needing supplemental financial support.

The difference a meal makes

Vince McCormack has been the nutrition coordinator at George Harvey Collegiate Institute’s Jump Start breakfast program since it’s inception in 2001.

Since then, the program has served 85,000 meals, and projects reaching an incredible milestone of 100,000 meals served by next year. Take a look at the video to see what Vince has to say about the importance of a well balanced nutrition in school.
